Program Description

The Parent-Community Networking Centers (PCNC) serve to create supportive partnerships among the home, the school, and the community for the purposes of supporting student success, and building a sense of family and community. The PCNC are school-based centers for families, volunteers, and community to identify their strengths, collaborate, make decisions, and create partnerships as a part of the Comprehensive Student Support System. The parent involvement program and goals of the PCNC are embedded in the school ’s Standards Implementation Design action plans, and serve, through a network of relationships among partners, to ultimately support parents and their children’s success in school.

The Mission of the PCNC

is to develop a sense of community and a caring, learning network to strengthen family, neighborhood, school, and classroom for every student's well-being and attainment of standards.

The Vision of the PCNC

for family support and student achievement and performance is a school with a loving and caring climate where all partners in learning feel supported and valued. As families, school, and community relate in harmony, the results are strengthened families, and a sense of pride, accomplishment, and community.

Goal

The PCNC, with partners, will focus on family support and will work to implement the six BOE Parent/Family Policy #2403 components below:

  • Communicating - Communication between home and school is regular, two way, and meaningful.
  • Parenting - Responsible parenting is promoted and supported.
  • Student Learning - Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning, including successful achievement of the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards.
  • Volunteering - Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance are sought.
  • School Decision Making - Parents are partners in the decisions that affect childrenand families.
  • Collaborating With The Community - Community resources are made available to strengthen school programs, family practices, and student learning.

The Parent Project

is a State of Hawaii DOE 10-week program (3 hours - 1 night, per week) for families of teenagers and provides parents with concrete, straightforward, step-by-step solutions in dealing with children experiencing failing grades, school suspension, oppositional behavior, drug use, and other challenging behaviors. This nationally recognized project targets parents and families who are seeking support and information to deal with difficult children.  Cost for the workshop is free, and financial aid for the $24.00 workbook is available upon the recommendation of vice principal and counselor.
