The Vision of Kaimuki High School
“Kaimuki High School is place where people are proud and successful. Our graduates are life-long learners and responsible contributors to our society."

General Learner Outcomes
The General Learner Outcomes (GLO’s) shall permeate all aspects of teaching and learning with the goal of helping all students to become effective, productive citizens.
    1.    The ability to be responsible for one's own learning.
    2.    The understanding that it is essential for human beings to work together.
    3.    The ability to be involved in complex thinking and problem solving.
    4.    The ability to recognize and produce quality performance and quality products.
    5.    The ability to communicate effectively.
    6.    The ability to use a variety of technologies effectively and ethically.

DOE Mission
The Hawaii Department of Education, in partnership with the family and the community, is committed to having all public school graduates achieve the General Learner Outcomes and content and performance standards in order to realize their individual goals and aspirations.

High school students will have opportunities, not limited by time, for college-level coursework and program endorsements to prepare them to be successful in a global society.

Therefore, all graduates will be fully prepared for post-secondary education and/or careers and their role as a responsible citizen.

DOE Vision
Our vision of a Hawaii high school graduate is that all public school graduates will:
  • Realize their individual goals and aspirations;
  • Possess the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to contribute positively and compete in a global society;
  • Exercise the rights and responsibilities of citizenship; and
  • Pursue post-secondary education and/or careers without need for remediation.

We view the new No Child Left Behind federal law as an opportunity to further support our vision and goals. We have revisited all initiatives aimed at improving student achievement to ensure compliance with the No Child Left Behind requirements.

DOE Goals
Hawaii's citizens and community leaders place a high priority on quality K-12 education. The Board of Education and Superintendent of the Department of Education advance this commitment toward excellence by fostering student achievement, school improvement, and community involvement in education based on higher expectations and challenging standards.
The vision guiding public schools
    1.    Holds high expectations of what students should know, be able to do and care about doing;
    2.    Focuses attention, effort and resources on promoting student learning; and
    3.    Holds each school accountable for meeting high levels of performance.

BOE Mission
The mission of the Hawaii State Board of Education is to promote excellence and equity in Hawaii’s public schools and enable all students to meet their own unique and varied potentials.

BOE Vision
Hawaii’s public schools are institutions of learning that parents want their children to attend and students want to attend. All schools, regardless of size, are safe, nurturing learning communities where members work together and all students achieve high academic standards and become contributing members of society.
